Cool Braid Thingy

Here is a video how to do a cool braid. I really didn't know what to call it, it looks more like a weave, but it's actually just a braid. I am having a contest to give it a name. Post your ideas in the comments below and I'll chose my favorite name. The winner receives a free hair accessory of their choice.

Here is the finished product. I have tried doing it on wet hair, but it doesn't work. I don't know if it is just because my dd's hair is so coarse, but it works better when it's dry. Also, the longer the hair, the better. If her hair was just a little longer, it would be weaved all the way to the ponytail, or I could just secure the two together in the back and leave the rest of the hair down. I don't love to just leave this hangin' by itself. But you could certainly do lots of them all over like a twist or a braid and tie them back into a messy bun. That would be super cute. I'd love to see what people do with this!

That looks pretty cute. I like how that funky braid looks. You didn't show us how you finished the back and there's not a good view if it.

I just stumbled across your blog and I can't wait to try this on my girls. It's so funky and different, and snake-like? So, I guess, my name for it would be the 'funky snake' braid. Kinda weird, I know, but that's all I could come up with.

Oh my gosh! This is so cool (and I've never seen it before.) I can't wait to try it. It kinda looks like lace, or like it's crocheted. So, I would call it a crocheted lace braid. Yeah, I'm weird.

I love it! When I first saw it, I thought of a snake wrapped around something. So I would call it a "snake wrap."

Love it! Thank you so much for the video tut, I can never get the styles right unless I actually SEE how they are done in real time lol...
hm...ok cheesy name alert here...unbe-weave-able braid...I was going to say "hemp hemp horray" (in reference to your comment about it looking like a hemp weave bracelet..which it does remind me of) but that name sounded a bit too hippy ;)
Thanks again for the tutorial!

That is super cool! I am always one for literal names. So, how about "scrunched braid?" Whatever you name it, it's AWESOME and I can't wait to try it out tomorrow!

I am FREAKIN OUT! That is the most AWESOME thing I've ever seen. I say it's like "snakes on a stick!" -- I don't know but you win the fabulous award of the century on this one sister! You go girl!

That was absolutely the coolest braid ever!! I tried it on my 7 yr old's hair this morning who has quite a bit shorter hair but it was SO awesome that it actually worked for me...most of these beautiful styles end up a little askew on her short hair!! ;)It kinda resembled a ladder to me when you pulled it out a little bit!!

I know -- it looks like that old-fashioned hard Christmas candy... do you know what kind I'm talking about? It looks very much like that when you push it all up from the bottom & it bunches up! That's my vote - Christmas candy or something along those lines! Once again, I can't get over how cool this is. You're amazing!

I really like that "braid" did you come up with it yourself? I can't wait until my 4 month has enough hair so I can try it on her. I'd like to share my boutique blog with you. It is at www.tinkerbellboutique.blogspot.com I hope you check it out thanks

This is way cool and looks easy to do. A great change on a regular braid! I would call it "the rick rack" because it looks like rick rack lace.

Okay, I will have to wait years to do this on my DD, but one day it WILL be possible!!! Anyways, it totally reminds me of "rickrack"!!!

I think it is a great braid. So creative. I love to sew and this is how you gather a seam, like for the waistband of a skirt...so I think of it as "the gathered braid". Great blog...she has wonderful hair!

I love this braid! It is so cute and easy to do. As I was doing it on my daughter she said it looked like caterpillars. So, we called it the caterpillar braid. Thanks for your blog! You have really cute hair styles.

That is super cool! And tell Hailey that she is just gorgeous!! I second the suggestion for "rick rack" braid.

This one just might be easy enough for me to do!!

Thanks for showing

I like the names 'lace braid' and 'rick rack.'

By the way, this is the CUTEST idea for a braid that I have ever seen. I love it!

That was a very fun idea!! My daughter who is 6 was watching it with me and made me keep rewinding the part where you pull one of the three sections. We both thought it was such a good idea. I asked her what she thought you should name it, and she said "The Skruncher". :)

How about a play on words... The Cinch Braid... it really is a cinch to cinch it up!

I have a name! How about "the hair is always smoother on the other side" braid, or "the ADD braid" ('cause it looks like my mom when her ADD is acting up!)

BTW: I loooooove your blog and I can't wait to try this!

Ahhhh... I like rick rack too... but scrunched braid makes sense too...
I know, I'm not even making up a name...

I tried this on Saturday with my own DD and it turned out great. I told her it was called a push braid because you have to push the other two strands up.

The loops look like butterfly wings so I would call it the Butterfly Braid

It does look like a snake like others have mentioned. I thought of the "serpent" or the "serpent on a stick" when I saw it!

So cute! I'm definately going to try it. Whatever you call it, it is just cool.

So cute! I used to do this one on myself in Jr. High all the time, but I'd forgotten about it! I'll put that back in my memory to do when my daughter has longer hair :) See that's why I love hair blogs! Thanks for reminding me!

That is so creative....braids are really here to stay. Braid styles can never get old or outdated.

We do have one question for you in regards to removing or detangling-especially with children.

We know that there are so many ways that hair can tangle apart from tiny braids. Some children have had their hair become severely matted/tangled from conditioners and shampoos.

Or if the braids are left for 1 week their hair tangles.

Because we use deal with very matted/tangled; we just wanted to inform you and your readers-if they have a problem with very tangled hair about the product called the Take Down Remover Cream.

It detangles hair that is as hard as a stone or that is so stuck together it looks like a birds nest. We use it for matted ponytails, braids, or to comb out dreadlocks.

Thanks again for the new braid ideas.

This is called a slide-up-braid since you 'slide' the strands up.
